Don't worry! I'm here to help. The links below answer the most frequently asked questions that I get (and had!) from friends just starting out on their oil journey.

What is an essential oil?

If you've never heard of an essential oil, you may be wondering what in the world an essential oil is and where it comes from. This short video is a good place to start.

The Earth is covered with various plants in various forms, colors, and odors. Many of the plants on Earth contain compounds known as essential oils. The naked eye cannot see these compounds because they are concealed in the roots, seeds, flowers, or another part of the plant.

Essential oils are highly concentrated oils with a robust aroma and powerful effect. Only one drop of essential oil can have potent health benefits.

Most often oils are made of herbs, flowers, leaves, bark, and roots. They have significant uses in perfumes, in the cosmetics industry, as well as in medicine, in massage therapy and aromatherapy.

Essential oils are known as volatile oils, ethereal oils, and aetherolea.

Essential Oils Use Today:

Essential oils in Europe became popular in the 1950s when therapists used them for massage.

Only thirty years later, they are becoming popular in Western countries and the US.

Today essential oils are part of the everyday use of humans. Their extensive palette of use and the many benefits made them part of the everyday life for people around the world.

Essential oils can be used for aromatherapy, which is the most common use. It can be used using a diffuser, that is, a few drops of essential oil diluted with water, and is emitted in the form of mist through the diffuser.

The essential oil can be used topically as a massage mixed with a carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil, or any other carrier oil.

doTERRA Essential Oils:

doTERRA was founded in 2008, when a group of healthcare and business professionals embarked on the mission of therapeutic-grade essential oils, enabling everyone around the world to benefit from the use of essential oils.

The name doTERRA is derived from a Latin derivative, which means "Gift of the Earth."

Since the beginning doTERRA has been committed to sourcing and selling the highest quality of essential oil in the industry.  doTERRA’s quality continues to be unrivaled in the industry.

Today doTERRA produces and distributes essential oils and similar products in 18 international markets and they are constantly expanding to new countries.

How To Use doTERRA Essential Oils

The most common ways to use doTERRA essential oils is topically, internally and aromatically.

The power of doTERRA essential oils can be felt when you use them as part of your daily routine to help stay healthy and happy.  Surprisingly the oils can also be used in cooking and cleaning.

The more you know about the benefits of essential oils, the more they become an indispensable part of your everyday life. AROMATIC USE:  Aromatherapy is one of the simplest and most effective ways of using essential oils.

Because of the power of essential oils, with aromatherapy, you can feel the benefits of these magical drops of nature.

Benefits of aromatherapy are numerous, such as calming the mind and body, increasing emotional status and proofing the air.

The best way to use essential oils is through diffusion, and the most recent way of using aromatherapy is by inhalation.

Nowadays inhalation is replaced with modern diffusers. Today diffusers can be water diffusers or waterless.

Water diffusers spread the essential oil that is mixed with water through steam. The steam  quickly spreads through the air, and you can feel the effect of essential oil. The waterless diffusers diffuse the oil straight into the air.

TOPICAL USE: Topical use of essential oils is also widespread and often used as aromatherapy, with great benefits for the skin and whole body.

When essential oils are used topically, they provide soothing, warming, cooling, or an energizing feeling for the body. Also, they can provide aromatic benefits while oils absorb into the skin.

When using essential oils for topical use it is more effective and potentially safer to dilute with a carrier oil.  Many oils don’t need to be diluted but it never hurts to dilute.

Before using some of doTERRA essential oils, make sure that you understand how to use the product and how it may react on your skin.  Everyone is different so it is a good idea to try a little oil on a small portion of skin before slathering yourself in it ☺.

SENSITIVE:

This doTERRA essential oils should always be diluted before using on young or sensitive skin.

Here is the list of the Sensitive doTERRA essential oils:

Bergamot Essential Oil, Cedarwood, Black Pepper, Copaiba, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Geranium, Ginger, Lemongrass, Lime, Peppermint, Petitgrain, Spearmint, Wintergreen.

For topically use very important is the dosage of oil and carrier oil for dilution. Always start with the smallest dose, for example, one to two drops. If you don't have any skin reaction, then increase the dose for better effect.

The dosage usually is three drops of carrier oil and one drop of essential oil.

INTERNAL USE: DoTERRA essential oils can be used for internal use, and with great health benefits. With the internal and safe use of essential oils, you can help support the immune, digestive and cellular systems.

In some cases, it has been shown that the use of essential oils may be a better option than aromatherapy and topical use.

The oils are also safe for use as an additive in food or beverages, as a flavor enhancer.

It is vital you know which doTERRA essential oils can be safe for internal use. Some of them are with strong chemistry, and some of them can be used with proper dosage. Also, there are potent essential oils that although they are approved for internal use, they should not be placed directly on the tongue or in the mouth.
